Set your goal and select your event

Thought I would do a little feature on the first of my tips from my 10 point guide –
Set your goal and select an event –
  1. Set short and long term goals; for example your long term goal may be to complete a middle distance triathlon so your short term goals could be to first complete a sprint distance triathlon and then a standard distance. Breaking down your long term goal into shorter ones make it more achievable.
  2. Be realistic – set challenging goals that are difficult but not impossible. When you hit your goals you will be more motivated to move on and achieve the next one.
  3. Think about what you actually want to achieve – Is it to simply complete the event for the first time? Or is it to finish in a certain time? To gain a PB? This goal should be specific to you and you only.
  4. Use an app (such as Training Peaks) to log your training and set a plan. If everything is logged down it will help you see how you are progressing. If you have a coach you can comment on your sessions and they can give you feedback.
  5. Pick your races carefully – Plan around family/life commitments and give yourself time to train and recover in between each one
Finally, don’t forget to enjoy the process – its supposed to be fun!!!
